If you are trying to tank now, you need to work on getting the gear for defense cap. For a tank DPS, does not matter as much as the defense cap. Right now if you are spec to DPS, what you can do is run the Heroics as a DPS with your 1700 - 1900 DPS (my rogue was pulling about this in heroics until i saved up emblems and got better stuff) and when tanking gear drops, if the current tank does not need, ask if you can roll need for tanking spec. This is how i seen a lot of people do it. I have seen a lot of people with lower gear go into heroics with the random instance finder. At times the other 2 dps can carry the person with lower dps. Had one instance that a lock didnt have any decent gear and pulled 600 dps and we didnt have any problems with the heroic run. They will do dps first (from lvling) if their dps is better and then when tanking gear drop, roll for it. But i would stick to maybe doing all the others on heroic instead of ToC. Look on wowhead.com and see where the tank item drops from that you want and use the instance finder to run those instances instead of random and when you save up enough emblems, buy what you need that havent dropped.
