What science fiction short story is this?

I remember reading this I think in high school. I don't quite remember what it was about, but the thing that stands out to me the most is that it's about people exploring other planets and on one of those planets that mankind has never stepped foot on, they find a piece of a statue that resembles a human face. At least I'm pretty sure that was it. Either way, this statue thing was reported and glorified in the story because it was so bizarre that they had found a replica of what looked like a human face (I'm pretty sure) on a planet never before explored by man. It gave a really profound sense of mystery...Anyone know the story? Thanks =)
