Tongue piercing? and tatoos?

well when i had my tongue done nothing happened but my friends did swell for a while but that's all i know about things going wrong as for the tattoos i got 2 one of which is at the bottom of my back and is very big most of it didn't hurt that much but when it came to the edge of my hips it was quite painfull
