With a sliding flue, what is open and what is closed?

I have a gas fireplace with no manual. It has a sliding flue lever, left to right. Any idea which side is open and which is closed? There is also a little lever on the side of the unit that looks like an allen wrench sticking out. It turns around, but I don't know what function it has.
